Sojourn of Ben

Sojourn: A temporary stay, according to the dictionary.

I've been feeling as though I am at a part in my music where it's become permanently frozen.
I was listening to music today, and something really hit me.

In the immortal words of Futureman,

"A man must go forward from where he stands.he cannot jump to the absolute, he must evolve toward it. Krishna says at any given moment in time we are what we are. We have to accept the consequences of being ourselves; and only through this acceptance can we begin to evolve further. We may select the battleground but we cannot avoid the battle."

My music isn't frozen at all. I am a sojourner. This is my temporary stay.

Whether you choose to accept it, there are consequences to being who we are. Some of them aren't as bad as others. My consequence is that by being a struggling musician, I am indeed going to "struggle." I don't go through each day wondering why I'm not a music major, or why the judge didn't like my audition. Or even why I'm still trying. Because it's one of the consequences of being me.

It seemed at first as though life was sending me a big signal when I didn't make it in. But I don't see it that way anymore. Instead, I am going to go forward from where I stand. I may not be deemed fit for the absolute to which I tried to jump, instead, I'm need to evolve into it. I am going to work harder than I could ever hope to work, and I am going to become a music major, because that is my absolute. I have realized and accepted my consequences, only to embrace them for what they are. Stepping stones toward my own absolute.

How do the consequences of being yourself affect you? How can you embrace your consequences?

These are questions I asked myself. I was so surprised when I realized the answers. Some people are destined to wonder these things though.

So, it is my duty to keep on keeping. I'm ready to go back and fight my battle. I'm ready to journey on.
